edit: i also admire AO's game system, altho not the current one since it became way too easy and more stupid, due to FC's new 'give them what they cry for' policy.. So old time's hard earned glory and 'ubahness' is what i really miss atm.

My problem is that FC is mixing up "simplier" with "simplistic". It makes it look like FC is giving way to whiners but imo that's a false feeling.

I can name a few tabletop games that can be learned in 5 minutes but are incredibly complex to play, like Space Hulk. And a few that have complex rules but end up so bottlenecked in imbalances and ridiculous stats it lose it's taste, like warhammer 40k. AO is leaning in the last category now, but it's more urgent to make your main easier to play with as it is now a mess.

I look forward what (needed) nerfs are first, like the heal nerf. We know more about AS (3s cast time, same recharge as FA and SA) .But I really want to know more about heals and nano energy as it's one of mechanics  that really lock down pvp content.

And and 31st Friday with means have a new sexy nanomage.

That's pretty cool pics... and a new engine? I wasn't aware one was being worked on.  It brings up an old question that always occurs to me over the years when I wasn't playing but would see that AO still around, which is: how economically viable is AO these days?  I never see it listed in "top 10 mmorpgs" type things, yet it survives while others do not... does FC or Means ever comment on the "economic health" of AO?  Obviously it must still turn a profit or wouldn't be here...   anyway, just curious

Means told something about 'this community is the essence of AO, thus it won't die' but its more likely a tale rather than a fact, so the question is still up. On the other hand the fee is so high that i can imagine its still profitable for FC.

edit: and the fr00b project makes them more players who will pay sooner or later, so they have players and income all the time, too.

I really like the fr00b -> SL $5 -> AI progression... seems real smart business that also allows ppl to play great game based on what can afford.  And for an addiction that keeps me from spending money out in bars, etc, all time, I really think AO is very inexpensive.  If compared to how I might otherwise fill the many hours I spend playing, I gotta say AO saves me thousands (well, going to titty bars NOT cheap!)  Wink

They got Notum up their DNA, and so they choke and die when leaving RK without a special suit. Lot of RP involved an illness that caused their bodies to lose notum back in the day.

Also if FC does something right, it's to judge how much AO should cost. With little salary cost atm (team of 11 devs afaik) they can maintain the game ona  low population. In fact Means somewhat said that the population is low on purpose as it is currently a painful game to pick up for new players., and he wait until both new engine, easier learning and balance fixes before marketing it. And I can help but think that it makes sense. Why have customers run away today when you can hook them tomorrow ?

Anyway FC moved servers, while still paying for old empty ones, and laid the cash to update the client dbs.

Somehow the org is doing the same, laying low until we have the occasion to be good and active again. We don't have much choice anyway.

bolt's got the  major point there... things won't improve until FC gets the fixes done and the new engine up..

I stick around cause I love the game and it was great when I started, I always had a team... never did a kite or pocket team until my 2ed toon and it was a wonderful experience.

once FC does what is promised I'll be there full tilt to recruit and sponsor all the noobs

Friday without means, by our hardcore RP dev.

So future patch both as daily missions for all players (froobs and exp gets different choices), they shold las an hour top each and give solo xp.

Also 150-200 instance with decent xp, wich should band aid Adonis at least, and a new twist. As it seems you start the instance solo,quests follows a branching storyline with several endings. Then it changes into a normal team instance.

It may go wrong and end unfinished or exploited by hey, they got ideas.

Also new atrox heads.
